1. How big is a Smartbox?

The outside of a Smartbox is approximately 3m long by 1.8m wide and 2.4m high. The internal measurements are slightly less measuring approximately 2.9m long by 1.8m wide and 2.1m high.  You can generally fit all the belongings from a 1 - 2 bedroom home into one Smartbox. See our how it works page for more information.

For business storage you can load up to 1400kgs into each Smartbox - approximately 85 standard size archive boxes, full of paper.


2. How do I book a Smartbox?

You can book online or contact us on 0800-Call Smart ( 0800 22 55 76).


3. I'd like to get a quote first before I book, can I do that?

No problem, you can get an quote online or call/email us.


4. How much does storage cost?

Storage starts from just $5.50 per day. See our pricing and locations page for more information on pricing.  A minimum charge of $225.00 applies to storage of one month or less.

5. I want to use a Smartbox for 2.5 months, what will I be charged?

Everybody is charged one month in advance on confirmation of their booking. This will equate to $197.50 up front if you are on the "less than 6 month" rate or $167.50 if you are under the "greater than 6 month" rate.  All Smartbox storers are charged on the 1st business day of each month for the full month ahead, except on the first payment of your first month in storage where you will be charged a pro rata payment which will pay your Smartbox account to the end of that month. Your 2nd and 3rd month will be charged to either your nominated credit card or bank account (via direct debit) on the first business day of the month.  At the end of your storage term (charged up to and including the day we receive the empty Smartbox back to our facility), we refund you for any remaining unused storage days along with your storage bond.  In short, any part months (after the first month's storage) are charged at the daily rate of $5.50 or $6.50 per day. 

Getting the Smartbox delivered - You can have as many Smartboxes as you need. We'll bring the secure storage unit (Smartbox) right to you.


6. Where does Smartbox deliver to?

Smartbox delivers to most areas in the main Auckland urban area from Albany to Papakura and Whitford to Massey. Extra costs may apply if you live on an offshore island or outside the Auckland urban area.  Please contact us to check.


7. How much room is needed to park the Smartbox trailer at my place?

We will leave our mobile trailer containing your Smartbox at your place. The trailer is about 6m long from tow bar to the end of the ramp and 3.2m high from the tyres to the roof. This is the equivalent of at least two car spaces. Our driver will need to be able to hook up to the trailer as well, so the more room, the better. Our customer service team will discuss access with you when we make the booking.

8. My belongings are at several locations, how do I organise that?

We can send your Smartboxes to different places. Please call us on 0800 22 55 76 to check. Extra charges may apply.

Packing and pick up


9. How much time do I have to pack my Smartbox?

You have up to one day (24 hours) to pack your Smartbox, then we'll collect it from you.


10. How do I access my Smartbox to pack it?

Your Smartbox is easy to access. The Smartbox floor is just 40cm off the ground and comes with a small, easy in-built ramp.


11. How do I lock my Smartbox?

When you've finished packing, just lock the Smartbox - We can supply padlocks or you can provide your own. Either way, you'll be the only one with access to the key, as you are the only keyholder.

12. What if I find I need another Smartbox?

No problem. If you need another Smartbox, contact us and we'll drop one off for you. Remember that you get discounted rates for more than one Smartbox!


13. Are there items that I cannot store in a Smartbox?

Yes there are some items that you are prohibited from storing in a Smartbox.  These include perishables, flammables and liquids. See our prohibited items page for more information.

14. Where is the Smartbox storage facility?

Your Smartbox is stored at our secure storage facility at 10 Arthur Brown Place, Mt Wellington, Auckland.


15. What are Smartbox's opening hours? 

You are always more than welcome to visit us to see our operation or to access your Smartbox.
If you want to get something out of your Smartbox, please call and book a time so that we can ensure your Smartbox is ready for you in our unloading bay. We will do our best to accommodate you and we require at least 24 hours notice before you come in. We can only book in your access when you call.


Our opening hours are:

  • Monday to Friday : 8.30 a.m. - 5.00 p.m. (or by appointment)
  • Saturday and Sunday: 8.00 a.m. - 4.00 p.m.
  • Closed on public holidays (unless prior arrangements / bookings made)

 

16. How long can I have my Smartbox stored for?

We can take care of your Smartbox for as long as you like. It will be locked in our secure storage facility until you need it back.

17. How can I access my Smartbox?

Access is really easy - just contact us when you want your Smartbox returned to you or call us and set up a time to visit our storage facility. We require at least 24 hours notice and will book in a time only when you call. We will do our best to accommodate you.
